OSBE over..

Yeap..I am 3/4 through my exams. Can't wait for it to end. The OSBE (Objective structured biomedical examination) orals was a breeze. Now for Friday's big written one.

Anyway, after OSBE, gave myself another break by doing some still life. Inspired by Malaysian government's big failure on the "Tak nak" campaign. LOL

Retail theraphy

Now then, what can I get for my camera collection with the €150? I actually made a list of what I could get according to priority.

1. Darkroom equipment for printing
2. Lightmeter
3. Camera bag
4. Developer
5. Films
6. Camera strap

Out of the 6items, item 1&2 is too costly, costing at least €250 each, so no deal over there. I did however manage to get the remainding items on my list with €0.10 as change.

Camera bag? I need one to keep and carry around my growing collections.

Developer? I ran out.

Films? 120 film are costly! I would of cause love to stock up on more, but I only have so much cash to use. Stock up on 12xrolls of assorted film instead.

Strap? I need one for my mamiya.

Am I insane? Definetly! Would and could think of 101 items I could get besides those mentioned above, unfortunately the shop is a digital shop and I am a film user! :-D

my joyful nightmare

Finally after waiting for one week, the TLR I ordered from e-bay came. Imagine my sheer joy when seeing the package sitting at the reception calling out my name. From the looks of the receptionist, he must be really happy I am no longer at the reception every other hour asking him has my package arrived.

First thing I did with the camera is to sit in front of my computer with it. This baby cost me one big bomb, I wouldn’t want to explode it on day one by pressing the wrong trigger, would I? Nonetheless, even with my trusty digital manual, it took me at least half an hour to figure out how to open the camera back. Guess you all know now how much IQ there is up there in my skull eh?

After tinkering with it for some time, I finally reached out for the canister of HP5 plus that had been sitting on my table for the whole one week. This is it, after this roll, I can announce to the world I have finally shot medium format!

Armed with my Centon k-100 for metering purposes, I headed over to the St. Stephen Green Park. Since it was lunch time, shooting opportunity was plenty. I think due to my rush to head out, the TLR back actually opened half way while I was shooting. Bye bye two frames. This is very painful since you only get six frames in one roll, that’s 33.3% of my frames gone. Ouch!

Anyway, finishing that one roll was the easy part. The harder part comes now, the development! Once again, I relied on my trusty computer to do some research on developing 120. Google-ing it turned out no info, so I figured it must be same in the loading of film into the tank. I was so wrong.

Things to note when developing b/w 120:

1.There’s actually a paper lining with the negative.
2.You are supposed to remove the paper that lines the negative, not roll the paper together with the film.
3.You are also supposed to make sure when loading the film, the changing bag (in this case, my toilet) is suppose to be light proof.

Believed it or not, my toilet had so much light leak, I could actually see my hands working the film into the reel. To add salt to injury, I am still using that sucky reel that doesn’t “eat” the film properly.

With much prayer, I finally manage to get the negative developed. How did I fare? One good shot on the film, with lots of fogging in the rest. Ah well..there's always tomorrow. Now I just have to figure out how and where in world am I going to keep the negs.

Art Exhibition

RCSI would be having an art exhibition. Not surprisingly, the photo soc was asked to participate in it. As broke as I may be since getting the MF, I would still need to exhibit something there. So, I choosen 3 photos from my travels, one from Kilkenny, Ireland and the other two from Rome, Italy for it. I've been told I haven't updated here for ages, so out of...I don't know...pressure?...I am posting those three photos here too.

more fractals and more whining..

Some bragging first..I had work as a photographer's assistant and also do freelance on my own. I am young, but already am advance in many areas of photography. Now that the ego of me had been written out and also to show I know what I am saying, time for a piece of my thoughts...

So many people out there assume by having the most expensive tools of trade would automatically make them a master in their field of art. Most of them don't even realize that they lack the basics. Yet, they still got the guts to go pro. This I really respect them, in a sarcastic manner, of cause.

In the photography community, contacts are important. Every photographer know every other photographer. Words spread fast too if you are not up to par and try to act as if you are. It's funny how I keep hearing people laughing behind those newbie backs at them.

To those wannabe out there in Malaysia who wAnts to go pro, please, I beg of you, get your basics right first; learn from the old horses; get your contact build up first...don't go ditching your day job just because you think fast money can be made in photography field. In the end, the only loss is you, not me nor the world.

Btw, what I put up on DA are just a selected few of my works, usually of certain aspect of me. It doesn't represent in any way my true capabilities in photography. So, don't ever make the mistake of judging me in being a newbie in this field.

Taken from my DA account...
